About the office/school

This role sits within the Pro Vice Chancellor, Student Experience portfolio which includes Student Success, Indigenous Education, Chaplaincy, Libraries, Student Life and Wellbeing. This position reports to the Manager, Student Conduct & Wellbeing.
 
About the role

The role is responsible for coordinating a national primary prevention and education framework in response to the University’s ongoing commitment to the Respect. Now. Always. Initiative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the University’s Respect@ND prevention and education program to provide a consistent and national offering of training opportunities that address the social and cultural drivers of sexual assault, sexual harassment and family and domestic violence, ensuring the effective use of university resources.
  • Provide coordinated and confidential support to students with lived experience of sexual or domestic violence and, where appropriate, refer to internal and external support services in accordance with University policy and procedure.
  • Build and sustain strong partnerships with relevant business units, schools, faculties, and student associations to support ongoing student engagement initiatives and foster cultures of respect.
  • Collaborate and liaise with other departments to provide strategic and specialist input on the development of prevention and education initiatives that raise awareness among university students and staff that sexual assault and harassment are unacceptable, and to ensure that avenues of support are available, appropriate, and easily accessible.
  • Keep abreast of relevant legislation and coordinate the development and review of policies and procedures to meet best practice.
  • Provide guidance, coordination and supervision as required to the University’s Respect Officers, ensuring services are provided ethically and in accordance with the scope of practice, policy and university Objects.
  • Undertake activities associated with service reporting and development, such as preparation of written reports, participation in organisations and committees pertinent to student wellbeing and liaising with stakeholders in the student wellbeing space, both internal and external.
  • Actively engage in communities of best practice that promote the University’s commitment to the Respect. Now. Always. initiative driven by Universities Australia.
  • Other duties as identified by the Manager, Student Wellbeing.
  • Comply with University policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Relevant degree qualifications, with extensive relevant experience in a similar role and an excellent understanding of the current issues and trends within education and challenges facing universities.
  • Experience and confidence in delivering workshops, training and facilitating group.
  • Ability to understand, respond and provide specialised expertise to guide the delivery of tailored prevention and education initiatives that address the drivers of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and family and domestic violence that are evidence-based and reflective of best practice.
  • Ability to deliver services on a broad range of issues, demonstrating confidentiality, ethical and professional evidence-based support.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to build successful relationships with other departments and achieve consensus with senior levels.
  • Highly developed relational skills including the ability to gain confidence, influence and engage with a wide range of internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary issues in the higher education sector.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
